Insight Meditation Community of Charlotte presents Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi, Buddhist Monk/Scholar Talk via Zoom
Bhikkhu Bodhi Special Event
IMCC is honored to offer this special event to Charlotte.
Venerable Bhikkhu Bodhi is an American Theravada Buddhist monk, ordained in Sri Lanka. He now lives and teaches at Chuang Yen Monastery (Carmel, New York).
• He is the president of the Buddhist Association of the United States.
• At this year’s (2019) United Nations celebration in recognition of Vesak, the Buddha’s birthday, he gave an address about our need to confront climate change. (Or, as he notes we might do better to call it, climate destabilization or climate disorientation.) It is, as he puts it, “a critical condition.”
• He was appointed the second president of the Buddhist Publication Society and has edited and authored several publications grounded in the Theravada Buddhist tradition.
• He is founder of the organization Buddhist Global Relief, which funds projects to fight hunger and to empower women across the world.
