Physical Therapist Inspired Yoga Class

Join Dr. Sarah at this introductory physical therapy inspired yoga flow targeting core activation, posture, functional movement, and breath.

Have you practiced yoga in the past? Did it feel good and relaxing at the time bending into poses, but made you feel worse later? Maybe some numbness or tingling when moving your arms or trying to sleep at night, or perhaps it led to a more serious injury? Do you suffer from back pain or scoliosis and have been told by your doctor that yoga is an inappropriate form of exercise for you? Let me change your perspective by introducing to you the LYT Yoga Methodology, specifically designed by a physical therapist! Typical yoga practices can focus on end ranges and overstretching, oftentimes just hanging on joints which can lead to excessive strain. Working from the neurodevelopmental stages we develop at birth for basic movement, the LYT method promotes development of more complex movement patterns and teaches specific modifications to standard poses such as half kneel to give upright postural awareness and focused stabilization with core integration and the preparedness to move from it. According to the LYT method and other medical research professionals, “We are never too told to go through these developmental stages because of neuroplasticity: the ability of the brain to grow and learn new things at any age. We want to be integrated in our movement patterns. We are given an opportunity to integrate, to reintegrate, to improve our movement patterns every single day, even if we’re not a kid anymore.” Challenge your body and mind so you can feel clearer, brighter and uplifted. All ages and fitness levels are welcome!
