Natural Awakenings Charlotte

Rothberg to Host Talk and Retreat

Donald Rothberg, Ph.D., will deliver his Engaged Spiritual Life messages in a special free presentation from 7 to 9 p.m. on October 28 at Park Road Baptist Church, and in a daylong retreat from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 29 at Central Piedmont Community College, Overcash Building #300, both in Charlotte.

Connecting Inner and Outer Transformation is the special focus for the talk, as he’ll utilize his 30 years of scholarship, teaching and activism to identify key principles and practices to help attendees weave together the different parts of their lives.

Utilizing Saturday evening’s perspective, the retreat will explore combining depth of spiritual practice while engaging with the challenges of our world—combining periods of silent meditation practice with interactive practices, short talks and discussion in exploring cultivating empathy and wise speech; being skillful with conflict, difficult emotions and reactivity; and more.

Rothberg, a member of the Teachers Council at the Spirit Rock Center, in California, who has practiced Insight Meditation since 1976, wrote The Engaged Spiritual Life: A Buddhist Approach to Transforming Ourselves and the World.

Cost for retreat: $35, registration required as space is limited. Donations are also accepted at both events. Locations: Talk -- 3900 Park Rd. Retreat -- 1206 Elizabeth Ave. For more information or to register, email [email protected].
