Recycle Right Presentation at Metrolina Recycling Facility

Jan 27, 2020 04:06PM ● By Shannon Mc Kenzie

In an effort to reduce the amount of non-recyclable materials put in residential curbside recycling carts, the Mecklenburg County Solid Waste Department is conducting one of its free educational and informative Recycle Right presentations from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on February 19 at the Metrolina Recycling Facility, in Charlotte. The event will include an overview of the county’s residential curbside recycling process including a video with closeups of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) sorting operations; details on the challenges and costs of improper recycling and what is and what’s not recyclable; a fun and interactive game that clarifies some common recycling misconceptions; and ample opportunities for q-and-a’s and dialogue.

Attendees will also learn about recent changes to the recycling program and why it’s important residents clearly understand the importance of proper recycling in our area.

Non-recyclable items (wishful recycling) costs the county $1.6 million annually. Educating and soliciting community cooperation is a primary objective of the department this year.
