Chelation Therapy Benefits the Whole Body
Dec 31, 2024 09:38AM ● By Melissa Lynch, FNP-C, MBAChelation therapy, which has been used for decades, is a method to help remove toxic heavy metals from the body such as mercury and lead that can contribute to lower blood pressure, reduced risk of heart attack, lower inflammation and reduced fatigue. It can also be helpful for anti-aging, heart conditions, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and autism.
Chelation is a simple process where a chelation agent such as ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), is comfortably infused intravenously to remove toxic metals from the body. Benefits vary from person-to-person, but there is evidence of cardiovascular benefits that affect circulation and the entire body.
The first step is an IV challenge test to see the metals in the body and which may be affecting overall health. The test results are reviewed, and the number of treatments is determined to provide the most benefit. After the prescribed number of treatments are completed, an individualized maintenance regimen is provided.
A meta-analysis published in The Journal of the American Heart Association found that repeated chelation therapy using EDTA for cardiovascular disease may benefit patients with diabetes and peripheral artery disease.
