Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy and Women’s Health

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has proven to be an effective therapy for age-related concerns such as cognitive decline, balancing hormones, alleviating menopausal symptoms, infertility issues and facilitating healthy aging. Its anti-aging protocols have shown the ability to increase telomere length by 20 percent and produce a 30 percent decrease in senescent cells that can lead to age-related disorders and cancer.
HBOT is an established adjunct therapy for improving fertility outcomes because it stimulates new blood vessel growth (angiogenesis) and reduces inflammation in the endometrial lining of the uterus. The technique also equates to higher-quality eggs and embryos, as HBOT transforms the lining of the uterus into the optimal environment for embryo implantation, resulting in higher pregnancy rates.
Animal studies in older females suggest that HBOT may be a potential clinical application for improving fertility. HBOT for male infertility has also revealed significant improvements in sperm survival, density, morphology, normal sperm rates and motility, for a greater clinical pregnancy rate. It has been shown as well to significantly alleviate perimenopausal clinical symptoms including insomnia, night sweats and heart palpitations due to its hormone-balancing properties.
Dysfunction of mitochondria, the “brain” of each cell in our body that determines the cells overall function, increases as we age. HBOT restores mitochondrial function. In addition, stem cell exhaustion increases as we age resulting in decreased ability for the body to repair itself. HBOT causes an eight-fold increase in stem cell production. Lastly, the narrowing of blood vessels increases as we age, resulting in less oxygen reaching the tissue. HBOT causes new blood vessels to grow into the tissue.
