Dr. Alicia Brown is a Carrick-trained functional neurologist serving the Charlotte area for 15 years. She combines her advanced training in clinical neuroscience with a holistic, individualized approach, delivering non-invasive, brain-based rehabilitation for various complex neurological cases. Brown’s training has positioned her as a leading voice in functional neurology and as a trusted resource for patients seeking effective care.
Carrick training refers to advanced postdoctoral education through the Carrick Institute for Graduate Studies, founded by Dr. Frederick Carrick. Functional neurology’s approach is unique, as it uses non-pharmaceutical and non-invasive modalities to address neurological health. Practitioners come from various healthcare fields, including medical doctors, osteopaths, physical therapists and chiropractors. After completing at least 350 hours of course work and passing a board examination, practitioners become board-certified functional neurologists.
Brown helps patients with conditions including concussion/traumatic brain injury, post-stroke, childhood developmental disorders, dysautonomia and neurodegenerative diseases. Her approach begins with an extensive diagnostic exam. Then she creates a customized care plan, including brain-based exercises that she learned from Carrick and over 30 state-of-the-art therapies to optimize brain-body health.
Brown earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill before completing Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Life University. She has thousands of hours of postdoctoral studies from the Carrick Institute, studying the art of patient care directly with Carrick during grand rounds.
