Personal experience led a woman-owned practice to transform her services in a highly challenging healthcare business environment. Heather Gentry, DMD, established her general dentistry practice in 2014. However, after years of struggling with health issues that were unresolved through conventional medicine, she turned to a functional medicine doctor who helped uncover the root causes and restore her health. 

This experience led her to re-evaluate her approach to dentistry, recognizing the deep connection between oral and overall health. In 2022, she transitioned to holistic dentistry, offering biologically based care that focuses on whole-body wellness, biocompatible materials and personalized treatment—helping patients find the kind of healing she once searched for herself.

Dr. Gentry—certified in safe mercury amalgam removal, ozone therapy and microscope dentistry, and a certified Shamanic Practitioner—offers general holistic dentistry, same-day crowns, ceramic inlays, cosmetic treatments, ozone treatment, red light therapy and periodontal care.

The practice follows the Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique to protect both their patients and the environment. A specialized mercury vapor filtration system placed near the mouth, along with supplemental oxygen and a rubber dental dam for isolation, minimizes mercury exposure during procedures. Several additional safeguards help to capture harmful particles and prevent environmental contamination. 

Once safely removed, the tooth is replaced with a biocompatible resin or ceramic restoration that’s both non-toxic and aesthetically pleasing. 

Making people aware of the essence of holistic dentistry through local events, educational workshops and outreach plus networking and collaborating with like-minded healthcare providers is a priority. “Many people are still unfamiliar with what holistic dentistry is and the long-term health benefits it provides. Educating the community about the connection between oral health and overall wellness, and helping them understand why our methods matter, takes time and effort.
