Sustain Charlotte Invites Ideas for Potential I-77 South Changes
Sustain Charlotte is inviting community members, artists, designers, planners and other visionaries to share bold ideas for how Charlotte could transform the I-77 South corridor if the planned toll lane expansion were reconsidered. Submissions, that need to be received by April 6, may include sketches, renderings or written ideas imagining parks, greenways, housing and other community-centered possibilities.
Selected concepts will be featured in a public exhibit at the Dubois Center at UNC Charlotte Center City from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on April 13 during the Charlotte Ideas Festival, a multi-day series presented by The Charlotte Center for the Humanities & Civic Imagination, and featuring Charles Montgomery, author of Happy City.
Charlotte is at a pivotal moment in deciding how the I-77 South corridor will evolve. This program provides people the opportunity to imagine how infrastructure could repair neighborhoods, reconnect communities, improve health and mobility, and create a more vibrant future for the city, with the April 13 exhibit bringing those community-driven possibilities to life.
Founded in 2010, Sustain Charlotte helps create a more equitable, connected and healthy community by inspiring responsible growth and transportation choices.
Submitting a vision is free and event tickets are also free (reservations are required). Location: 320 E. Ninth St., Charlotte. For more information on or to make a submission, visit SustainCharlotte.org. To register for Apr. 13 event, visit TheCharlotteCenter.org.
