Jul 02, 2019 12:01PM

WOW! Words of Wisdom, a new initiative led by Dr. Catherine Chew focusing on personal and professional development utilizing journaling as a de-stressing and “pro-cessing” strategy, will encompass a series of helpful events.

A Time to Unplug: Let’s Pause & Listen workshop will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on August 7 followed by a Turn Down the Noise: Let’s Pause & Listen workshop from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on August 10, both in Midtown Charlotte. Career and Life Transitions: Journaling as a Strategy seminars from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays from September 17 to October 8 will be conducted at the same location.

The Journaling 101: Getting Started seminar will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursdays from September 19 through October 10 in the Kings Point area of Cornelius.

Today’s demanding, hectic and stressful lifestyles necessitate think time, reflection and quiet moments. Diagnoses of attention-deficit problems have increased 42 percent since 2003 according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Journaling is a well-documented way to achieve self-calm toward greater workplace productivity and personal well-being.

Chew, a college president for seven years, also a CEO and having other leadership roles with several companies, provides deep insights and professional and personal wisdom.

Costs: range from $35 (a 90-minute workshop) to $195 (a 4-session/1-month seminar); individual consultations are also available. Locations: Midtown off Metropolitan Ave., Charlotte; Kings Point, off West Catawba Ave., Cornelius.
