Buddhist Teacher in Charlotte for Two Days

Jul 31, 2019 08:24PM

Insight Meditation Community of Charlotte will present a free talk from 7 to 9 p.m. on August 23 and a meditation and teaching from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on August 24 with Buddhist teacher Bhikkhu Jayasara (Bhante J) at the Park Road Baptist Church’s Milford Chapel, in Charlotte. An American Buddhist Monastic of the Theravada tradition who resides at Bhavana Society of West Virginia with his preceptor Bhante Gunaratana, he has been a meditation practitioner for nearly 15 years, a Buddhist for more than a decade, and in 2014 at the age of 36, moved to Bhavana to become a monastic.

The Friday talk, entitled Anger Arises, will feature how the Buddha teaches about skillfully dealing with and how to manage anger, and will be preceded by a 30-minute guided meditation and followed by 45 minutes for questions and answers. Donations are encouraged.

Living with Uncertainty will be the theme of the next day’s session as Bhante J helps attendees face their fears, exploring what the Dhamma teaches about how to live a skillful and meaningful life with courage and wisdom in a world of uncertainty.

Cost for Aug. 24: $35 plus donation encouraged for the teacher who is not otherwise compensated. Scholarships available. For more information or to register, email [email protected]. Cancellation policy: IMCCharlotte.org.
