Eco Profiles 2026: Kings Mountain Preserve
Amanda Peckman is the Director of Kings Mountain Preserve, a conservation green cemetery dedicated to environmentally sustainable burial practices. Her passion for green burial grew from a lifelong love of nature that began in childhood while spending time outdoors at her great-grandmother’s home. There, she developed a fascination with the natural world—from insects beneath a willow oak tree to fresh tomatoes in the garden.
Over time, her appreciation expanded beyond nature to include people, land and entire ecosystems. During college, she recognized a clear theme emerging in her life: a commitment to caring for both community and the environment. Green burial became a natural expression of these values, blending respect for the earth with meaningful service to others.
At Kings Mountain Preserve, Peckman leads community education efforts, gives tours, and helps plan events and services. She enjoys connecting with visitors and sharing conversations about sustainable end-of-life practices.
