Medical Therapeutic Yoga at Roper Physical Therapy

Christine Roper, MSPY, PYT, is the founder of Roper Physical Therapy, which offers in-person and virtual medical therapeutic yoga (MTY), an adaptive form of yoga and integrative medicine delivered by experienced, licensed medical professionals. Ginger Garner, MPT, ATC, PYT, developed MTY after years of successfully treating patients with acute and chronic pain that fared better when she used yoga as a primary means for delivering rehabilitation.

MTY utilizes a holistic, biopsychosocial model of care, prescribing yoga in a safe and effective manner. It combines the expertise of a physical therapist with the traditional components of yoga, making it safe for all ages and medical diagnoses. MTY offers a new model for wellness and rehabilitation that helps clients maintain health in a simpler and more holistic way.

MTY classes at Roper Physical Therapy are taught by a professional Yoga Therapy Institute-trained physical therapist that takes into account specific conditions and can adjust and adapt a program to meet the individual needs of the seasoned or novice yogi.

Roper says, “We lay the foundation for core stability by focusing on breath work and yoga postures that are suited for your body and condition. As physical therapists, we are focused on the best biomechanics to keep you safe and healthy. MTY classes are beneficial for a wide range of medical diagnoses, all ages, and all experience levels. Our classes are offered in a virtual format with three students allowed in the studio to make it a safe and customized experience.”
